Nigeria's campaign in the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic kicked off in style, with a convincing 4-1 victory over New Zealand. The Nigerian side dominated the match, thanks to goals from:

•  Shakirat Moshood (2')

New Zealand's Hannah Saxon scored a consolation goal in the 60th minute.

This win marks the second consecutive victory over New Zealand in the tournament, following Coach Bankole Olowookere's side's 4-0 triumph in the 2022 group stage. Notably, current team captain Taiwo Afolabi, who won Player of the Match, also netted in that previous encounter.

Next up for Nigeria is a clash with Ecuador, who impressed with a 2-0 win over host nation Dominican Republic.
